Siemens puts IM-RealART on view

Siemens Healthcare is taking a new solution for cancer therapy to this year’s Conference of the European Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology.

The German company says IM-RealART allows radiotherapy treatment plans to be adapted in response to changes in the shape and position of tumours, “even while the patient is still lying on the treatment table.”

The key to the new solution is CTVision, which allows images to be taken in the treatment room using a CT scanner mounted on rails. The scans can be compared to earlier scans used to plan and evaluate treatment, and the plans adjusted if the tumour has changed.

Siemens says the system can recalculate radiation fields and doses in as little as seven minutes. Other elements of the system allow the radiation field to be targeted precisely.
