Southern consortium seals Sectra deal

Swedish company Sectra has announced that a major consortium in the South of England has signed a deal for Sectra PACS.

The Salisbury, Wight and South Hampshire domain consortium announced in December that Sectra was its preferred supplier for a region-wide PACS, and it has now moved to sign the deal.

The consortium is planning to implement IT systems that interact with each other, so that data relating to medical imaging examinations can be transferred between NHS organisations in Portsmouth, Southampton, and surrounding areas.

The trusts involved in the consortium are: Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, Isle of Wight NHS Trust, Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, Solent NHS Trust, Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Sectra PACS is a web-based system for area-wide radiology, that is built for workload sharing across many sites, and makes efficient use of networks.

The consortium is looking for shorter lead times, a better service for referring physicians, and improved care for patients from its investment.

The consortium was led by Dr Mark Griffiths, who has just taken over as the chair of the UK Imaging Informatics Group. Read an interview with him on EHI Imaging Informatics.
