Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital implements digital platform from Epro

Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has selected healthcare informatics provider Epro to implement a clinically focused digital platform.Ā

The solution includes technology that will speech-enable clinical applications, a mobile platform and clinical documentation. It also supports end-to-end outpatient management, inpatient flow, and integration with existing technology solutions. It is hoped the platform will help to boost the hospital’s efficiency by improving inpatient and outpatient flow and supporting administration processes for the hospital. Ā

Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital has a history of pioneering digital transformation. Back in 2013 it was one of the first trusts to implement an Electronic Patient Record (EPR), while last year it was announced to be amongst the second wave of trusts joining the Digital Aspirant Programme. Ā

Vishal Luther, CCIO andĀ consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, said: ā€œEpro will enable us to enhance the end-to-end process of dictating letters prior to being sent to patients. It will enable clinicians to use the speech recognition functionality to produce their letters quicker, and provide an analytics tool that will enable the service to be reviewed continually, highlighting areas for improvement.Ā

ā€œThe implementation of Epro will provide Liverpool Heart andĀ Chest with a number of benefits both clinically and administratively. Such benefits include: improvements to workflows, more structured clinic letters, and also reducing the current typing backlog to ensure the trust reaches key SLA targets.ā€Ā

Jonathan Elliott, managing director of Epro, added: ā€œWe are incredibly excited to be a part of the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH) digital transformation journey. When we first set out, our goal was to create a solution which provided better information more efficiently at the point of care, and to be working alongside LHCH – which shares many of the same goals and values that we do – is an honour.ā€Ā

  • In terms of Transfer of Care FHIR API usage, as required in the NHS Standard Contract, “more structured clinic letters”, means what?

  • `2013 – ‘one of the first trusts to implement an EPR’ …. somebody is having a laugh! There were many organisations in the UK with EPRs by 2013. I guess it all depends on pedantic definitions, but please don’t denigrate the work achieved elsewhere for petty soundbites.
