East Cheshire NHS Trust and Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation trust have gone live with a joint electronic patient record (EPR).

The EPR from MEDITECH launched on 14 June 2025, as part of the Digital Clinical System (DCS) transformation programme being delivered by the two trusts.

On the day of the go live, Danny Roberts, chief information officer, at East Cheshire NHS Trust, said on LinkedIn: ā€œWe’re out of the blocks.

ā€œIt’s been a busy day with plenty more to come tomorrow, but East Cheshire NHS Trust and our colleagues at Mid Cheshire have finally joined the EPR generation.

ā€œOur patients will soon be able to experience the quality and safety benefits that have been taken for granted for years in other organisations.

ā€œThe hard yards of true digital transformation will really start on Monday but, for now, we’re on the right track thanks to an amazing team effort across the board.ā€

The EPR brings together patients’ key information, including medical history, medications, diagnostics, imaging and test results.

It is hoped that the approach will help improve clinical decision-making and enhance patient safety across the hospitals at both trusts.

Mid Cheshire also shared the news of the launch on LinkedIn: ā€œFrom today, we are using a new electronic patient record system that brings patient information together in one place.

“Huge thanks to our amazing teams for your dedication and hard work during today’s launch as well as every member of staff who has played a part in our DCS.”

The trusts announced MEDITECH as the supplier of the joint EPR in July 2022 when the DCS programme launched.

Meanwhile, global healthcare provider UPMC Ireland has also announced that it will implement the MEDITECH Expanse EPR across four hospitals, two cancer centres and six sports medicine clinics, after signing aĀ 10-year contract in April 2025.

The implementation project at UPMC is due to begin in summer 2025, with the EPR go live expected by the end of 2026.

In December 2024, Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust also announced that it will roll out the MEDITECH EPR in its 20 locations around London.

The programme, which is expected to go live in spring 2026, will integrate Moorfields’ existing ophthalmology clinical noting system, OpenEyes, with the cloud-based Expanse platform.
